TGO - Masterful Reviews

Posted by The-Great-One Dec. 15, 2008 @ 9:27 AM EST

Well Newgrounds. It seems I have finally come across a flash submission in which I can honestly give out a Masterful Review to. I hardly ever give out reviews like this so if you want to give it a try then read my Flash Review Terms and see if your flash can be known worthy as a Masterful Flash.

1. These Pancakes Are Tiny
This flash submission deserves to have been showcased on the front page as well as winning Weekly Users' Choice, Review Crew Pick, and Daily Feature. If you haven't watched and reviewed this flash submission yet then you certainly are missing the opportunity of watching subtle humor at its best. This movie's storyline is nothing more than simple, but with the artwork, animation, and sound being so superb it draws you into the movie and makes you feel like the silent person with the two main characters.

2. -Play-
This flash submission returns to the old art of animation and that is frame-by-frame work with carefully made decisions. It has been awarded the Daily Feature as well as the Weekly 2nd Place awards. If you haven't seen this hidden gem then I must assure that you do see it while you still have a chance to do so. The artwork is rotoscoped movements in real life, but have been traced frame-by-frame. It presents a certain appeal forgotten or not known by others known as Stomp. It is a simple flash, but simplicity certainly does have it here.

3. The Liar - Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3
To save time I just counted the review of Part 3 as the review for all three. This series was certainly and interesting one. It's a simplistic renaissance storyline that can be enjoyable and entertaining for any and all audiences. It is an underrated flash movie that certainly deserves more attention than it has gotten. The Liar - Part 1 won a Daily 3rd Place Award, The Liar - Part 2 won the Daily Feature Award, and The Liar - Part 3 won the Daily Feature Award as well as the Weekly 4th Place Award. If you get a chance to watch these movies I suggest you do.

4. I'm Still Here
To some this may not seem like a true masterpiece, but in my mind I see it as a diamond in the rough so to speak. It is a flash movie that I believe everybody should see at least once. It has been awarded with the Daily 2nd Place award, and is truly a masterful flash in it's own. I can't really say much because the experience of viewing it will be different for each viewer.

5. How Are You Now?
This flash is one that I consider masterful. It speaks of an actual event through the eyes of a little girl. There are different ways to interpret it, but it's mainly the mind of a child within a catastrophe. It has been awarded the Daily 2nd Place award. If you want to take a trip back to your childhood I suggest you watch this flash.

6. War, Snow and Fire
I feel ashamed for putting off on reviewing this flash. It truly is a must-see! It hit the triple crown on Newgrounds by winning the Daily Feature, Weekly 1st Place, and Review Crew Pick awards. A story about a little girl, a fairytale if you will. I would like to say more, but by doing so would give away the story entirely. You're just going to have to watch it to find out.

7. The Ballad of CrippleKane
This flash has won a Daily Feature award and has been created by none other than AlmightyHans. An old western type flash presented beautifully before the people of Newgrounds. It's a tired old tale, but it truly never gets old. A must see for anybody who appreciates the Flash Portal and what it has given us. True artists hiding in shells.

8. Pixel
The first Flash Game to enter this list. It has won the Daily 3rd Place and the Weekly 4th Place, which I believe this flash deserves better. If you haven't played this game you really must, it gives the original arcade classic "Asteroid" a run for it's money. (who am I kidding, it puts Asteroid to shame).

9. Tarboy
The first flash movie that I consider to be absolutely perfect. Winning a Weekly Users' Choice, Daily Feature, and Review Crew Pick awards. Tarboy is a delightful tale that enraptures your eyes, hears, and mind. It is a somber story, but one I'm sure you'll enjoy. If you haven't seen this flash movie yet then stop reading this and go watch it now.

Subtle humor...I'l have to remember that word. I read what you said about "These Pancakes Are Tiny". I loved that movie. It was a simple cartoon, The characters acted like people in real life with their simple personalities, it didn't have random shit as it's way of humor, it was subtle as you put it. I definitely want to see more movies like this. It's a shame that the only things we can laugh at are Awesome movies, and video game parodies. If there are more movies as simple and appealing as Pancakes are Tiny, then I would be happy. They don't have to look as good or have as much effort in them.

Look at the Shapes movies. I loved those too. It's an easy way to express a simple joke. Why are people hating them?

Jan. 30, 2009 | 3:23 AM The-Great-One responds:

People hate the Shapes movies because they're not the greatest of artwork or animation. Although the humor is there the presentation is not. These Pancakes are Tiny had a lot of effort put into it.

These Pancakes are tiny really failed to appeal to me, yes the humour was subtle but it was also boring. The fact that it was so short and required swearing to be funny really pulled it down on me.
I actually gave it a 4 which was marked as helpful! by someone.

You truly are great.
You ought to be a flash portal mod.

Feb. 26, 2009 | 6:57 PM The-Great-One responds:

There is no such thing as a Flash Portal moderator, and I doubt there will ever be such a thing. We don't need Flash Portal Mods.
