Return of the Elephant

I have missed these games from you. Seriously, seeing how much you have done with a small blue elephant. This game did not disappoint. I loved every aspect of this game. The backgrounds were incredible and the rave bars were hypnotic, slowly bringing you in and then assaulting your eyes, in a good way though. I love the music choice from the Audio Portal, and I hated every time I ruined the rave because it stopped the music. The story attributed to a lot of my deaths because I wanted to read the text while trying to dodge the bars at the same time. I thought it was splendid. Everything about this game is absolutely perfect.

Orange You Glad I Didn't Say Banana?

I saw this game on the Frontpage and thought it looked interesting. Gave it a click. While browsing the menu, I found that the little "oooh" sound effect was really nice on the ears. Even better after completing each level. The goal of the game is to make the screen orange. Simple enough. At times though, some levels just mystified me, because said objective was not the case. The first level with the traffic cones had me stumped for a while, until I was just trying everything, eventually I got it, not by solving a puzzle, just lucky. The basketball between the two traffic cones I didn't get either. The music is nice and the sound effects in the game itself are par for the course, besides the little "oooh". It's a neat concept for sure, just some of the levels I didn't get.

Looks like an RPG Maker game. I've seen amazing things done with this software. This is your pretty average run of the mill game though. I've seen dungeon crawlers made with this before and even those have a decent story behind them. I don't know what's going on here. I know this is a demo, it is in alpha after all. I expected something more out of it. You know what you're doing, and the artwork is quite nice on the creatures. This really needs to be more fleshed out going forward. It was mind numbing to say the least.

Rhythm and Blues

I am unfortunate enough to not be good at rhythm games. I can't keep in rhythm with a beat. I am however great at memorization. All I have to do to get good at this game is get far enough into the song to where I can know where the arrows are pretty much gonna go and either die or barely make it. Then I jump back in and just unleash. That takes a lot of time for me to do so I typically stay away from rhythm games. However I just had to give this game a shot.

Dance Dance Revolution is the obvious comparison here. I think that is misguided though. I find it more similar to PaRappa The Rapper than DDR. The difference, and a huge difference at that, is that this has the Newgrounds flair. With iconic Newgrounds characters. The whole thing isn't just Newgrounds characters though that would be a bit too much. The controls are responsive which although important in every game it is one of the most important in a game like this.

Not too much going on in sound effects, which is okay, because the music steals the show and a focus on sound effects would get distracting and confuse the player. The scales are tipped towards the music end and that's where it needs to be. Speaking of which, the music. That's what made me finally get around to playing this game more. The music in this game is phenomenal! It probably is the biggest draw to this game. Which the music could have been any songs from the Audio Portal. Each rendition for each battle though is fantastic! The story, I can honestly take or leave. It's nothing too spectacular, but not bad either. Right there in the middle.

Although not my genre of game, too much memorization for me, that's just me though. I can certainly see why this is popular and has picked up so much steam on Newgrounds and abroad. It is wonderful, simply wonderful.

It's A Game About Nothing! *seinfeld bass*

I loved this. It was fantastic from beginning to end and I see potential for this to be fleshed out more. Each power up gained was useful and at times quite hilarious. I loved the elevator music and the standard music I thought was fun, I was hoping to see it change more throughout the game. When I got to the cannonball area I kept trying to jump the cannonballs and I died multiple times. When I got to the end I got blasted again, then while I was trying to figure out the best strategy to do this I was just fiddling with my limited controls and remembered, oh right I can crouch. The controls were spot on. The humor was amazing. The design and concept of this game were brilliant. I want more.

Great Idea - Bad Execution

This is a bit of a hard one for me. I loved the idea of this game, it reminds me of Robot Wants Kitty, but instead of a large level it is level by level and I like that idea a lot. The different power-ups were nice and how it built your character. The puzzle solving aspect is a great one, but the puzzles weren't as difficult as I was hoping for. That's where I started not liking this game. The level design was not good. I hate one block platforming with a passion. For a game like this in later levels, one or two is fine, yet I keep running into more and more and every time I feel down I hated it more. The sound effects are pretty basic, the overall presentation is nice, nothing to write home about. One sin though is no music. We have a plethora of audio tracks from the Audio Portal to choose from and a multitude of royalty free music sites through the Newgrounds Wiki. There is no excuse. Although I won't be returning to this game anytime soon, I love the idea so much that I am in anticipation if you make a sequel.

Beta

This game looks dull, it feels like something that is still being worked on. Just three screens? With the last one involving a nice little pixel perfect jump? Plus some slippery controls. There was nothing here. Some sound effects would have been nice. Also some background music, we have the Audio Portal filled to the brim with music to choose from. The idea is nice, it's not fleshed out much though. I understand that during Ludum Dare you're on a time limit, but this is just way too short and with little substance.

The Little Roomba That Could

The graphics are simple, but I kind of like it that way. What was drawn as a ChargeBot I see as a little Roomba going on an adventure to stay alive. The sound effects more than convince me that it is indeed a Roomba. The music was good, nothing fantastic, but good. Calming, not in your face, and nice for the puzzle aspect. This game kind of took me back to the "Trapped" series here on Newgrounds, you should really expand on this idea in the future. Unfortunately I was not able to beat this game, I got stuck on Level 11. Just could not get to that 7 Charge Space. The controls I liked having the option with, I chose the arrow keys because it was faster for me. My only nitpick is that when I was taken back to the level select screen I had to choose the next level with the mouse and I could not use the arrow keys, again just a nitpick though. A nice fun game with some love put into it. I would love to see this expanded on in the future.

Didn't Like It

The look of this game is absolutely beautiful. If Mega Man X and Sonic the Hedgehog had a baby it would look like this game. The music even matches that aspect beautifully along with the sound effects. However that's about all the positives I could say about this game. The controls are what killed it for me. I tried each control figuration and I still could not get a decent grasp of them. Then there is that barrier of bricks that you have to shoot through which is just tedious as all hell. What's wrong with the classic WASD control style? Move and jump with the arrow keys, shoot with S, dash with D, power toggle with W, and aim up with A. The controls did not make it fun to play which is a shame because this looks like a great idea for a game. Mega Man on a strict time limit.

Fun and Quiet

I love the idea of this game, it is really something you should expand on in the future. The platforms I loved the depth you gave them, it is just a small touch, overall it is a nice one. The lightning fixtures I liked and it took me a while to realize that running in the hamster ball is what charged the meter back up. The sound was average. The jumping and charging sound effects were basic, but the lighting sound effects for zapping something were strangely satisfying to me. There is no music, which I felt was a bit of a shame really. The Audio Portal on here is full of songs to choose from, something simple would have been perfect. I also love how you ask if the character is a rat or a monkey then tell us all that it is just a badly drawn cat. I liked this game.
